Children's Haven - Pilipog, Cordova
Last weekend, instead of the usual routine of strolling around the malls and wasting money (hehehe!), I spent my entire Sunday afternoon with the little angels of Children’s Haven in Pilipog, Cordova. A friend of mine is a member of “Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon - Mactan” and one of their outreach programs for this month is to visit an orphanage in Cebu. It was actually the birthday of one of the members and she celebrated it uniquely by spending it with the children :)
The orphanage is situated right next to one of Mactan's luxurious resorts, the Alta Cebu Village Garden Resort.
Here are pics of their houses. One of them is called the “Berlin House”. The orphanage is actually founded by a German named Albert Schweitzer of the Albert Schweitzer Familienwerk Foundation Philippines, Inc (ASFFM). It is currently managed by ASFFM Social Worker, Ms. Martiniana D. Mercado. As of this writing, the orphanage has a total of 58 kids, two of whom are in the college level.
Here’s a pic of their mini playground with the slides. This is where the little kids play during their break time.
Here are the kids listening to their ALNP "kuya".
A little close-up to those who were listening intently, heheheh! :)
And to those who were quite not, LOL!
This one's taken at one of the parlor games. This kid brings her comb everywhere, LOL!
A one-on-one with the kids. They get shy when we ask them questions :)
But got their guts back when it was time for snacks! :)
Mmmmmm!!! Savoring every bite :)
The ALNP ates and kuyas sharing the celebrant's cake with the kids who were also celebrating their birthdays on the month of November.
As a way of saying "thank you", the kids prepared a little presentation for us and I must say, they are really talented!!
The guys dancing to the tune of "Nobody" :)
Finally, it was already dark when our party ended. ASFFM Social Worker Ms. Martiniana D. Mercado gave the closing remarks :)
It was indeed a heartwarming experience to share our time with those little angels. It made us all realize that the greatest joys in life are not found in superficial stash of material wealth, but in simplicity and innocence, like those of the little children. :)
Till next post you guys! muwah!

That is so nice of you and your friend to spend sometime with those children who are less fortunate. I did one time visiting orphanage in Cebu City and it was a great feeling seeing the kids happy
thanks guys! :)
@eden, yeah it's indeed a great feeling to see those kid's happy faces :) it's like having a unique sense of self-fulfillment :)
beautiful. i love your post. parties are a waste of money. why not channel it to endeavours like this and make a lot of children happy. their self-esteem is being slowly repaired.
that is a great move you did. IT reminded me of my classmate that few month back he celebrated his birthday with the street children in their local area.

This is truly heart warming. And for Sanjo's birthday, we will do something like this too. But only when he's old enough to remember. So that it will be instilled in him the value of compassion. :)
Sis, i miss your presence!
wow this is inspiring. I hope I can spend my birthday too in an orphanage or silver home someday. I always think about it but I nver did it yet. That's one of my aim, sana magawa ko. Thanks for this post
Kudos!
It is really nice that you had spent a portion of your life with such kind deed. My cousin wanted to have spent her birthday last September in an orphanage; but our schedule does not let it happen. Maybe next year.
Belated Happy Birthday to your friend:)

I have just been 'matched' to adopt two little angels from this very orphanage after almost 4 years of waiting. My husband and I would appreciate any information you might have that would be helpful for us when we travel to complete our family.
